About KolorBox Education
Tutoring
Marcy Orendorff holds degree in Educational Psychology from Illinois State University with a specialty in learning and child development. She is currently enrolled in a graduate program at University of Colorado, Boulder, The Teacher and Social and Emotional Learning, focusing on social and emotional skills of learning. She believes a great barrier to arts and music learning is the "I have no talent," or "I'm too old," barrier. She worked as a K-12 tutor and charter school teacher for seven years; she has mentored adults to assist them with employment literacy tests and worked as a professional writer.
Creative Training
Marcy was classically trained in piano for ten years and has played guitar for seven. She writes music and has trained in vocal technique. As an artist, musician, and educator, she hopes to pass those skills on to others.
You Can Do It
She chose to get a graduate certificate in Social Emotional Learning because 30 years of research show that students who learn through SEL programs show an 11 percentile gain in academic achievement scores. In other words, the teacher who meets the student where he or she is boosts skills for learners at any age.
She has taught art and writing for children and adults and has added new creative classes perfect for the adult learner.
Special Needs
Marcy's passion is child welfare. She taught for 7 years, from 2000 - 2007, for Tailored Education and contracted with Pathways Charter School working with small groups and individual students with special needs. She integrated visual arts with basic skills to reach those who required a fresh approach. She worked with students with ADHD, students on the autistic spectrum and those with behavioral issues.
Marcy is principal at KolorBox Media, researching and writing medical marketing documents, grants, and public relations materials since 2009. She has expanded KolorBox services to include educational offerings.
